Content note: Caesarean section, surgical procedures on disabled children
Ella Glendining doesn’t know anyone who looks like her, and she wants to change that. Despite everyday discrimination and being rejected by mainstream society, she loves her unusual body, which doesn’t have any hip joints. She searches the internet for other people living with this rare disability. During her search, Ella, who is bisexual, becomes pregnant. She faces important decisions and talks to her parents about growing up and living a self-determined life. Her friend Naomi, who is autistic and therefore lives with an invisible disability, offers another unique perspective and a form of disabled kinship. Empowered, Ella travels to the United States to finally meet her chosen family.
