Documentaries as Tool of Investigative Journalism

Wednesday, 9th October 2024 | 5.30 p.m. | ENG | Palais KulturBrauerei

This talk explores the intersection of investigative journalism and documentary filmmaking, focusing on how documentaries have been used to expose and highlight social issues, political controversies and human rights abuses. It explores the controversial aspects of storytelling in this context, questioning what is observed versus what is scripted, and the extent to which filmmakers seek sensational stories. Including perspectives from experienced journalists & filmmakers, the debate will address the current trend of prioritizing compelling narratives, often at the expense of journalistic integrity.
