The lives of Argentinian cattle breeders are shaped by hard physical labour. The climate crisis and years of drought are now bringing Omar to the brink of ruin. He is caught between the calm resig-nation of his elderly mother, who is solemnly planning her end, and the optimism of his four-year-old granddaughter, Libertad, who is curiously exploring the world. Within the small cosmos of his uncle Omar’s family, director Alexis Franco shows the world’s big problems: life and death, the precarity of rural existence and, last but not least, the values and humanity that shape us. His directorial debut reveals the influence of his mentor, well-known documentary director Roberto Mi-nervini.

On Tuesday, 8 October at 7 p.m. the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung will host a talk on ‘Livestock farming between Drought and Structural change’. More information here.

  • Followed by Q&A: All screenings will be followed by a Q&A with director Alexis Franco.
