The Remains - Nach der Odyssee

THE REMAINS follows two parallel narrations: one leads us to Lesbos, the Aegean island on which many refugees have landed on their way to Europe. The other follows Farzat Jamil, a refugee from Syria in Vienna. The International Red Cross trains the Greek coast guard to handle corpses so to enable later identification, but many corpses are buried unidentified. Throughout the documentary, the hopes and glimpses of a better life come at great cost. Even when Farzat is reunited with his family, their happiness is bittersweet, tainted by the awareness of how many other families have been lost in the depths of the sea.

Theatrical release is on the 26th of September 2019.
