For Libuše Jarcovjáková, the question of happiness is a question of personal freedom. She has docu-mented her entire past: thousands of analogue photos have been seamlessly strung together to create a black-and-white mosaic of a life of resistance. Fragments of her quest for freedom in repressive Pra-gue after the Soviet invasion of 1968 are juxtaposed with radiant moments of self-expression in the queer underground. Footage of the life she began after escaping to West Berlin is also included. Director Klára Tasovská uses the photographer’s private archives to weave together an uncensored chronicle of a woman’s search for identity between East and West, allowing the private to become political.
