They lead modern lives in Kabul: Zahra Mohammadi is a dentist and has just celebrated her engagement, Taranom Seyedi is an activist, and Sharifa Movahidzadeh works as a government employee. Life as they know it ends when the Taliban take control of Kabul in 2021. On the surface, everything still seems normal: the market is open, children play in the street. Kabul is a beautiful city – now marred by ugly oppression. Women are deprived of their rights to education, to work and to lead a self-determined life. But in their outrage, Zahra, Taranom and Sharifa organise themselves, protest in the streets despite the abuse and beatings they receive, and fight to regain their rights and dignity.
