In Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and also the largest city in Afri-ca, access to electricity is very unevenly distributed. State institutions barely provide citizens with the essentials. Nelson Makengo uses impressive images and sounds to portray life in his city after dark, taking us on a journey into a tropical night, where torches light the way and resigned people endeavour to provide their own infrastructure and security amid constant violence. While the neighbourhoods near the riverbank remain flooded for weeks on end, the government plans a gigantic hydroelectric power plant to export electricity.
- Followed by Q&A: The screening on 7 October will be followed by a Q&A with co-producer Florian Schewe.
