Where do you go when you’re heavily pregnant and in labour – but you cannot move freely? Muslim women from the Rohingya minority in a small village in Myanmar have only one choice: Hla’s clinic. Hla is a Buddhist working as a midwife alongside the Muslim Nyo Nyo. In doing so, she risks her own safety every day, as the country is being torn apart by violent ethnic divisions. Nevertheless, Hla encourages Nyo Nyo in her great wish: to provide ongoing care to ensure the health of her community. Even though Nyo Nyo’s family has lived in this place for generations, Nyo Nyo is still despised as an intruder. She wants to defy her opponents – and even plans to build her own clinic. The political situation becomes more and more tense, and the violence in her village increases.
