German Premiere
Content note: sexual violence, war
Since being freed from captivity and enslavement by the so-called Islamic State, fifteen-year-old Mediha has been living with her younger brothers Ghazwan and Adnan in a tent city in the Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq. In her video diary, the young Yazidi girl processes her trauma and the sexual violence she has experienced. At the same time, and with the help of a network of Yazidi rescuers, she searches for her parents and youngest brother, who are still in captivity. Ten years after the genocide, the Yazidis are still a long way from coming to terms with the crimes committed against them – but young women like Mediha and her camera are making sure that we don’t look away and don’t forget.
- Followed by Q&A: Screenings on October 5 and 6 will be followed by a Q&A with director Hasan Oswald.
