Afghan friends Marwa and Raha had hoped their country had seen the last of oppression. They have heard their parents’ stories about 1990s Taliban violence often enough. But in 2021, Afghanistan falls back into the hands of the terrorist group. And the friends make different choices: Marwa leaves home, Raha decides to stay. They stay in close contact through voice messages. Trapped in a refugee camp in Abu Dhabi, Marwa and her husband wait to be resettled in another country. Meanwhile, Raha tries to escape the violence of the regime in Kabul. Both struggle with loneliness, helplessness and fear for their families. How do you grow up when the world you know is falling apart?
