An oil company worth billions, a sham trial making questionable accusations and nine men sentenced to death: in the early 1990s, Shell destroyed the environment and the livelihoods of the Ogoni people with oil production in the Niger Delta. Rivers and lakes were poisoned, people died. When the Ogoni rebelled against the company, they were brutally suppressed by the Nigerian government. In 1995, nine protest leaders were convicted and executed. Almost 25 years later, Esther Kiobel is fighting for justice – her husband Barinem was one of those convicted. And she is convinced that the company was involved in the executions. But how can she prove that Shell bribed witnesses back then?
