“The Hill of Death” – this was the name given to the refugee camp Khao-I-Dang on the border of Cambodia and Thailand. Hundreds of thousands of people were once stranded there as they fled certain death at the hands of the Khmer Rouge. Among them was a mother with her daughter in her arms. Still a baby back then, Neary Adeline Hay is now embarking on a quest to trace her escape forty years later. In the process, she finds out that her mother drugged her as a baby to keep her from crying as she fled through the jungle. How they barely escaped captivity and death. How her mother was forced to decide again and again whether to leave her daughter behind in order to survive.
