Content note: death, war
The war in Ukraine is having an impact far beyond the front lines. A newly founded care network is evacuating at-risk elderly and sick people from homes that they are often unable to leave on their own. At the same time, a consortium of forensic experts and military personnel is working to identify the remains of young soldiers and return them to their families for burial. Both tasks seem insurmountable given the constant threat of bombs and drones. Director Yuri Rechinsky takes a close and always empathetic approach to reveal the humanity in the midst of war and showcases the survival strategies that come into play when a state of emergency becomes normality.
