How well do you know your family? Alain Kassandra has been asking himself this question for a long time. His grandfather Justin and grandmother Colette are closely intertwined with the history of their home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo. But they have always remained silent. With a camera and a lot of patience, Alain persuades them to tell their stories, from their teenage years to the politically complicated period of Congo's independence. It becomes increasingly clear: the deep scars left behind by Belgian colonisation are everywhere, good and evil are neighbours – and Justin played a central role back then. Alain has to ask himself: How true are his ideas about his homeland? And how much does he really know about himself?
