Persistent drought is putting the lands and culture of northern Kenya’s Turkana-Ngaremara people in jeopardy, causing problems with wildlife and increasing tensions between rival tribes. Meanwhile, orphaned shepherd boy Kolei waits impatiently to begin his journey as a traditional warrior. But when he fails the crucial test, he loses the respect of the older warriors and is forced to withdraw from the community, disappointed and isolated. Rain still hasn’t fallen, and the climate crisis poses an imminent threat. When more and more wild animals start preying on his family’s livestock, Kolei is determined to do something about it. And he sees a chance to regain his standing in the community as well.
