Call for Submissions: Amazonia´s Indigenous People´s Perspectives on Climate Change - Short and Feature Documentary Films
Submission Deadline: 20 August 2023
Attention visionary filmmakers! Are you ready to ignite change and shed light on the urgent global issue of climate change? We are thrilled to announce the call for submissions for short and feature documentary films that delve into the captivating world of indigenous perspectives on climate change. This remarkable opportunity is presented by the prestigious Human Rights Film Festival Berlin, in collaboration with the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) and Euroclima Program, which is cofinanced by the European Union and the Federal Government of Germany through the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), with the support of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, one of the implementing agencies, together with ECLAC and AECID .
Climate change affects us all, but the voices of indigenous communities are often unheard. We invite you to amplify these vital voices and explore the deep connection between indigenous knowledge from the Amazon forest, traditions, and the challenges posed by a changing climate, as well as the potential solutions they offer.
In particular, we are seeking films that touch on the following topics:
- Ancestral indigenous knowledge and climate change management: highlight indigenous knowledge, technologies and practices that contribute to addressing the effects of climate change.
- Forests, Biodiversity, and Ecosystems: Let's emphasize the importance of preserving these invaluable natural resources. Showcase how indigenous communities play a pivotal role in safeguarding forests, protecting biodiversity, and promoting sustainable ecosystems.
- Climate-Resilient Food Security: Through powerful storytelling, illuminate how sustainable farming practices and innovative approaches to agriculture can ensure food security despite a changing climate.
- Climate-Friendly Energy Systems: we want to showcase stories of energy transition that contribute to decarbonization and the sustainability of economies. Highlight the importance of community involvement in decision-making and leveraging indigenous knowledge for suitable and sustainable energy implementation.
- Water management: show initiatives that contribute to ensuring the human right to water of indigenous populations, among the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change
- Risk management: show how indigenous populations prepare for sudden changes in the climate: rise in temperature, heavy rains, floods.
- Governance and politics: show how indigenous leaders position themselves in different local and global spaces to promote attention to their vulnerabilities in the face of climate change.
Of course, we also encourage you to explore the broader theme of climate change and its profound impact on our planet and the interconnections with human rights, especially considering the indigenous populations of the Amazon forest. Through your lens, delve into the interconnected web of environmental, social, and economic consequences caused by this global challenge.
